Rosebank (Formally Knarr) FPSO
Sturling provided comprehensive detailed design safety engineering support for the Rosebank Development Project, ensuring full compliance with UK health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
Our team worked closely with the project’s engineering and operations stakeholders to deliver robust safety solutions during the detailed design phase. This included hazard identification and risk assessments (HAZIDs, HAZOPs), implementation of inherently safer design principles, and alignment with COMAH, CDM, and UK Offshore Safety Case regulations. Sturling’s support helped to ensure that safety was integrated into the core of the facility design from concept through to execution.
The Rosebank project represents one of the UK’s most significant undeveloped offshore oil and gas resources. Located west of Shetland, it is strategically important in meeting the UK’s long-term energy security needs while contributing to domestic job creation and investment. Designed with electrification-readiness and emissions minimisation in mind, Rosebank aims to deliver energy with a lower carbon footprint. As the project advances, its long-term viability now depends on successful regulatory reassessment and the implementation of planned low-carbon technologies.

Jansz-Io Compression
Sturling has successfully completed its scope of work on the Jansz-Io Compression ( J-IC) Project. Under contract with our client, Aker Solutions, Sturling provided comprehensive support across safety, environmental, and requirements management disciplines. Our team played a key role in ensuring that project activities adhered to regulatory frameworks, industry best practices, and client-specific standards throughout all phases of development.
The Jansz-Io Compression Project is a strategic subsea infrastructure upgrade designed to maintain long-term gas production from the Jansz-Io field—part of Chevron’s wider Gorgon LNG development located approximately 200 km off the northwest coast of Western Australia. As reservoir pressure naturally declines over time, the installation of cutting-edge subsea compression systems—alongside high-voltage power and control infrastructure—will help preserve production capacity well into the late 2020s and 2030s.
This project is vital not only for sustaining LNG export volumes to key markets in the Asia-Pacific region but also for ensuring continued domestic energy security in Western Australia. Sturling is proud to have contributed to such a high-profile, technically advanced project that reflects the future of deepwater energy solutions.

Bertam Development
Sturling provided technical safety support to Lundin for the Bertam Development, comprising a Wellhead Platform (WHP) and the refurbishment of the Ikdam FPSO (now FPSO Bertam). Our scope included developing the HSE Philosophy, overseeing safety and Class documentation, and delivering both Design and Operations Safety Cases in line with PTS requirements. We also supported operational risk management, advised WHP and FPSO site teams, guided consultants and Lundin engineers, and ensured full safety integration across the development.

Sellafield Nuclear Complex
Contracted through the Costain group, Sturling has provided quality assurance, quality control, inspection and related support at the Sellafield nuclear site.
This project marked the start of our work in the nuclear sector which continues to be a key goal in the progressive development of our capabilities and service offerings.

Other Energy Projects
Sturling has delivered specialist safety and risk engineering across global oil and gas developments, including FPSOs, onshore gas plants, subsea tie-backs, and decommissioning projects. Our team also led the establishment of Genesis Technical Safety & Risk Skills Group, covering capabilities such as Human Factors, CFD, Environmental Engineering, and Functional Safety.
